The office looks all Christmasy! Looks pretty now but lets see what happens after the office Christmas party in a week.

Tie Day in the office! Thanks Joyboyluv for the tie! Hat Day next week! I love it that the company culture is as such that we can wear whatever we want and play and be loud and get drunk, as long as the work is done and done well. I’m just surprised none of my friends have come to visit me in the office seeing we have free flow of beer here! Coke too, for the non beer drinkers. Bring your own whiskey in case we’ve run out tho. ;)

Wine, Coffee, Hug, Dinner & TV

Too many things happening this evening
There’s a wine drinking session in the office.
Then coffee with a friend.
Then go hug and spend some time with a friend who broke up with his girlfriend.
Then an impromptu birthday dinner
Then how am I gonna get home in time to watch Amazing Race Asia at 9pm?!
I better leave now.

Paper cuts & Marshmallows

Went for a cigarette break and a few of my colleagues are getting tattoos next week.

I often ask ppl how they would describe the pain of getting a tattoo. Some say it’s like an ant bite. Some say it’s like a million ant bites. Adam of the Pillar describes it as “A paper cut. On the tongue”.

Arrrrrgggggh! I’m a very mental person and it’s very hard to get an image out once I’ve conjured it in my head. I can almost feel the pain each time. He told me that a few months ago but the image still pops into my head now and then. The talk about tattoos brought back the image.

So my only remedy is to think of a big, bouncy, fluffy, soft, pink marshmallow on my tongue. No paper cuts. No space for paper in the mouth. Just a big marshmallow.

I still feel a bit of the pain. I feel faint……..

Ice Bar Not Open for Bussiness Yet

Got an sms from Ice Bar the day before last so decided to check it out with Sin Cyn yesterday. The place was open but they weren’t serving drinks yet, there were no chairs and there were blocks of ice in there. The temperature was -15C.

Why would a F&B outlet send out info about the opening of their new place when it’s not ready for customers? They’re off on a bad footing already. Wonder if they can compete with Laundry at the level below.

Saw Gary Foo as I was walking in.

Went to Borders and found that Adam of the Pillar was working there!

Went for dinner and saw Asun at the next table.

Is KL getting smaller? Or do I just know too many ppl? Or is there a serious lack of places to go to? Unfortunately i think its the 3rd option.

Sexy Bathroom with a Studio Apartment

Called the management yet again and they said that my keys will be ready in a day or 2. It’s been way too long and I’m tired of waiting. And the excitement is waning too. Too many calls and visits to the sales office.

As soon as I get keys, I need to do the inspection and get to place semi / furnished. Realtors have come a-calling so I think I can get it rented out quite quickly.

Since I won’t be able to stay there for a month or 2 before renting it as originally planned, I shall content myself with throwing a party and maybe passing out there for the night. Can’t let a stranger live in my brand new place without me first devirginizing / christening / warming the place first!

But of course I rather rent to friends. Who wants a beautiful and sexy bathroom (with see thru glass walls) which comes with a studio apartment with a view of green mountains?

Office Blackout = Starbucks

Whenever there’s a blackout in the office, we go out for coffee. No point sitting in the office doing nothing when we can’t work without our PCs or sending emails. This time we were out for lunch when we received calls from the office about the blackout. So we went to the Crocs shop in Damas, tried on the shoes, played with the toys and nearly turned the shop upside down. I bought a pair of pink Mary Janes.

And nearly bought a pair of gold Prima but they didn’t have the right size. Beryl bought a green Off Road, her 7^th pair of Crocs.

I love Crocs. They are so funky, so light, has many users and the grip to any surface is so tight. Most ppl can’t comprehend the traction and have fallen down before, me included when I ran around the shop testing the shoe when I bought my first pair of Crocs.

Crocs makes u wanna jump, skip, hop and play.

Like like how wearing a new pair of Nikes makes u wanna till you have the wind in your hair.

Yes the power is back in the office but the mail server is down. Kinda bored. Waiting to go Ice Bar. It opens today. Wonder if the concept is like the one in Spore or overseas.

Do Leprechauns Drink Guiness?

Was reading Neil Gaiman’s American Gods last night in bed when I came across a portion about a leprechaun drinking Guinness. Know that both come from Ireland but didn’t know if leprechauns drink Guiness. So when I came to work this morning, I asked the 2 brand managers who handle the Guinness account if they have heard of it. They didn’t so I Googled it. And leprechauns do indeed drink Guinness! I shall be a leprechaun this weekend.

Bad Months for Love

In the last 1 week,

1 friend had a major fight with her boyfriend.
1 friend broke up with his girlfriend.
1 friend had a fight with her fiancée and is on the verge of breaking up and calling off the wedding.
1 friend’s wife left him.
1 friend and his wife got divorced. They have 1 baby girl

It seems like Nov n Dec are bad months for love. My ex and I broke up about this time last year. It was one of the hardest things my heart had to handle in quite a while. There were also a string of break ups and divorces around the same time.

Not sure if it’s due to the stress of the coming holidays. Or approaching a new year compels one to evaluate ones current life and make changes that’s necessary to improve life. Perhaps ppl become complacent in the middle of the year and should there be problems, they tend to ride it out and the unhappiness culminates during the holiday season when everyone is expected to be happy.

I also remember reading a research conducted worldwide that break ups do trend to happen a lot more towards the end of the year.

While I’d like that special someone to spend the holidays with, I guess it’s better than experiencing a break up right about now.

Being single now isn’t gonna be easy. Wallow in misery for a while. Cry your heart out. Find a temporary distraction. But things do happen for a reason and perhaps it’s just not meant to be.

If you need company, be it for coffee, to get drunk or do something fun and silly, anything just to forget or feel happy again, you know who to call.

I would not have survived my last break up was it not for my dearest friends and certain distractions.

Let your heart heal and eventually it will be filled with something or someone better. This is my hope and prayer for everyone.

Vintage Monte Cristo

I’m not really a wine person. It gives me a mellow high (or maybe it should be called a ‘mellow low’) and makes me sleepy. But when I get home I can’t sleep. Very frustrating.

Single malt whiskey is my drink of choice.

But more and more of my friends are into wine and most of them go to Vintry in D’sara Heights. Was there last night with the watch collectors and purist group. The wine was flowing and we were offered Monte Cristo Vintage cigars. Not sure what’s considered vintage is when it comes to cigars but this one was 7 years old and oh so smooth and yummy. It went well with the wine and the roasted pork.

Didn’t think I’d enjoy cigars but the past 1 year has proven otherwise. Maybe like many good things in life, it’s an acquired taste and after that, you don’t turn back.

Barnyard

To help bring "Barnyard" to life, Sun created an 80 terabyte high performance computing (HPC) render farm to generate animated images designed by a model software program. Running 1,200 Sun Fire V40z and Sun Fire V20z x64 (x86, 64-bit) servers powered by AMD Opteron processors, the render farm also includes Sun StorEdge 3510 and 3511 FC arrays, and Qlogic fibre channel switches. The production also utilized the Sun Java Workstation W2100z and Sun 24.1-inch LCD Flat Panel Monitors in its desktop environment to more efficiently edit final film. Allowing the 'Barnyard' production team to focus on its core strength - producing beautifully rendered animated films - Sun Services helped design and deploy the render farm.

No clue what the above means. All I know is that it took 1 week instead of 4 for the production so the movie could be released earlier.

Got tickets from Sun Microsystems to watch Barnyard. They booked all 10 theatres at Cineleisure for Sun customers. The move was at 10.30am. So had to wake up early. Early for a Saturday anyway.

It was pretty entertaining n funny. Rabbits seem to play supporting roles in quite a number of animal animations of late.

Bye Bye Button

Dunhill relaunched their Dunhill Button as Dunhill D360. Doesn’t ‘Button’ sound so much better? And cuter? I would’ve stubbornly continued to call it Button, had it not been for the dinner. Which was very good in educating the consumers about the reasons behind the name change.

Previously, there wasn’t much diff btw Dunhill Evo and Dunhill Button except for the packaging. And some didn’t see the value in paying 40 sen extra for the Button.

The new D360 has blends of fully imported tobacco from 4 diff countries including Virginia which supposedly has the best tobacco. So it’s a 360 degree product. And it was a nice smoke indeed. An improvement from the Button.

The dinner and pairing of wine was good too. Dunhill is really about style, class and exclusivity. An at this dinner I’d say they pulled it off pretty well.

Corn Sticks Around

I didn’t realize that corn doesn’t digest till I met a girl who refuses to eat anything which shows up as part of its original form in her stool. After that, I was more observant and I found out that there is indeed evidence of the corn.

Still, I wasn’t satisfied so I Googled it and found that corn does digest. But it’s the cover of the kernel that doesn’t get digested. The filling of the kernel does. It comprises mainly of starch (complex carbohydrate) and a little bit of protein, vitamins and minerals.

I had fun finding out that bit of info as well as several other interesting facts. I esp enjoyed a site called The Poo Report. A conversation on the topic ‘Corn in the Poop?’ has been going on for 3 years!

Ppl sure enjoy their shit. I’ve encountered many a dinner conversation which centred around poop. In fancy restaurants sometimes. Yes, its so wrong but it happens.

I met this one guy for the first time and his opening lines were about his shitting habits. Okay I know that’s very off but he was so very funny. Yes we’re still friends.

And one need only look at the Kancil Award entries to know what inspires the creatives to come up with ads or possibly where they come up with their creative ideas.

So, tonight. Eat some corn. See if its still around tomorrow. Enjoy the experiment.

Renting to Penguins

My new studio will be ready soon and i can't wait to collect the keys and do it up! Received several calls from real estate agents enquiring if i wanna rent or sell. I'm planning to rent but if possible, to friends or ppl i know. I would like to stay there myself ....... the place is gorgeous and so is the bathroom. Thats one of the reasons i bought the place. The walls are made of glass. So u can have a bubble bath while watching TV in the room or look out the balcony! But i already have a place so staying there just isn't financially viable. So hopefully i can rent it to a friend so that i get to stay there too sometimes!

Was on MSN with Wijay Friend of the Penguins about who are the best ppl to rent out to. He really has a thing for penguins even tho he pretends he cant stand them. We talk about tenants and he brings in penguins to the conversation. He secretly likes Popo.

Valentino

Went for the launch of the Valentino boutique at Starhill last night. It was graced by the Italian ambassador, a couple of celebrities and the socialites who go to such events.

Tired of the clubbing scene cos I see the same old ppl. So have started to go to these social events. But after 3 or 4 of them, I realized it’s the same ppl who get invited. Thats how ppl appear in Tatler / Peak / Prestige several times per month.

Need to get out, do something different n meet new ppl. Maybe going to a different city or country would do the trick.

Omega flagship store launch tonight. Bet I’ll see at least half a dozen ppl who were at the Valentino event.

Knackered from shopping

Ow! My ass and inner thighs hurt every time I stand or sit. Shows how much the muscles are being worked just by wearing very high heels. And this is not including the jumping around.

Had coffee with Marsupial, Sweet Jas and Kevin the Random Soy (we came up with this when we could not decide if he should be called Randon Kevin or Kevin Soya Bean) at J&R at Hartamas after lunch. Marsupial paid RM13 for a Portobello mushroom (I like the sound of ‘portobello’). Sure it was quite a big shroom (is ‘shroom’ short for ‘mushroom’?) but its still quite hefty for a fungus.

Sent Zach for a bath when I bumped into my mum there. That was about 4pm. It’s almost 12 now. I just got back. Spent the whole day shopping with her and I’m totally knackered. I’m not a shopping kinda gal and that sport, hobby or whatever some girls call it, stresses me out. But my mum was insistent that she buy me new dresses. Which is a good thing I guess since there are so many events coming up. Plus I wouldn’t usually go shopping unless there’s a dire need for a particular outfit for an occasion.

Unsure if I wanna go for the Valentino party tomorrow. If not, there are loads more to come. It’s year end. Parties abound!

I better go sleep. Long week ahead. But the Man U Chelsea match is happening right now! Think I’ll watch till half time and read Patrick’s live running commentary via sms when I wake up tomorrow.

101 East

Dunhill 101 East party at KL Convention Centre. The night started off a bit slow with a few fashion shows by Zang Toi but then the music started and they started serving whiskey so I was a happy bunny for a while. There weren’t enough ash trays (and this being a smokers event). And I found it very difficult to meet new ppl and to shake their hands or give out cards when u are standing with a cigarette in one hand and a drink in the other. Not to mention the women have handbags to hold on to too.

The saving grace for the event is the amount of good looking ppl there. Honestly and u can’t deny it, the national average for good looking ppl is pretty low esp when it comes to men. That’s why women here have to settle …. Okay that’s a whole diff story which I’ll write about next time. Anyway the national average of a guy is a 4 out of 10. Women is higher but its also cos they have the advantage of make up when they are out in public. But at this event, everyone was an average of 7 and above and I’m excluding the models. I’m convinced BAT screens the guests list before inviting ppl to such events. But I’m also sure that lighting, everyone being dressed up and the alcohol had a lot to do with it too. How many events do u get the see every single guy in a suit. This was one of it. Pity our weather isn’t conducive enough but if a guy is tall and is of medium built at least, a well cut suit will make him look fantabulous.

The door gifts were impressive - Bulgary perfume. And we're not talking vials.

Ended up staying past mightnight after which it was off to Mojo and Ivy after.

Met a guy tonight at the party. We were chatting n drinking when he says “I gotta be honest with u. I have a girlfriend. That’s why I’m acting all weird”. And thereafter proceeds to hit on me. I dun gettit. Does he feel guilty that he wants to hit on me but is attached? And that stating it upfront then hitting on me make it more acceptable. To his own conscience?

Whatever. Brain too tired to analyze. Time for bed.

Kancil Awards 2006. The usual. Meet ppl in the industry, very often ex colleagues, exchange cards and hugs. The flowing of alcohol, the breaking of a few glasses, small food fights and scandals here n there. At my first Kancils, I sat at the table looking at everyone and knowing almost no one except from those from my agency. As I moved on, as did everyone else, and as the number of Kancils attended grew, the event was more about networking and catching up with ex colleagues not seen since the last agency or since the last Kancils. Realized that only those in agencies who are winning lotsa awards remain in the hall to cheer and go on stage. Others go outside to smoke or to chat. At my first agency, we were pretty small and neither did we win that many awards. Sitting there looking at the other agencies clanging the plates and jumping on the chairs, I told myself I wanna experience what they are feeling. And at this Kancils, I did. Go Saatchi! The feeling of being in a winning agency and to be in an agency you’re proud of being associated with is a high in itself. Of course the endless bottles of Moet aided in the sense of euphoria. The way the Saatchi tables were drinking, u’d think we were celebrating Agency of the Year even at the onset of the apetizers. But in the end we didn’t win the title but we did come up Top 3. Next year they tell me. And I shall be waiting.

Waist length

My hair is so long now that when i tie it up in a bun on the top of my head, it hurts cos its so heavy. Thinking of cutting it. Like shorter than I've had it every before. Like a bob. But too scared in case i look like crap with short hair despite my stylist reassuring me otherwise. If that happens, i guess i could turn to wigs. Wigs are fun. Better than hiding at home for 6 months i guess.

Hey Marc! U found my blog! Armed with an email address that's not even registered to this blog and a 12 hour deadline. I don't think I've ever looked till page 31 of any of the Google searches I've made. Good man. Our weekly drinking session starts next week. More Moet and strawberries?

Animal Naming

Lola just walked by, looked at my koala wrist rest and asked me if I've named it. The one time when i don't name my lil creatures, I'm asked whats its name. But i kinda have a system. If they don't talk to me, they don't get a name. No i'm not weird. Lotsa ppl name their toys / furry friends / creatures. Most ppl deny it tho. Just like how Wijay says that his car, Mustard Bastard, does not have a name. Kekeke! So i named his other car - Cyan Diane.

Dymanics at the Conquest of Time

Every now and then you meet new ppl whom you can click with. There’s a certain energy and flow in the conversation whether as a group or one-on-one. You can feel the dynamics of the group as each person brings something different to the table. We were all from different but interrelated industries and seem to have common goals and aspirations even tho we were at different stages of our lives now. It is indeed refreshing from meeting the same faces, doing the same things in the same places.

The night started with Nic’s invitation to the opening of Sincere Watches’ Conquest of Time exhibition at KL Convention Centre. The usual purists were there as well as the usual crowd who moves in these social circles.

We did our rounds. Looked at Omega, Corum, Piguet, Girard Perregaux, Frank Muller and more. Said hi to friends and acquaintances. Hugged. Air kissed some. Pecked some others. Nodded at others. Drank champagne.

Took us a while to complete one round of the hall. Even tho it was a small area, every 5 steps or so, one of us would meet someone we knew.

After the event, we continued the night with food at Chatterbox (??) and later at Sky Bar over a bottle of Moet. I’ve decided that I prefer Bollinger to Moet and don’t fancy Veuve all that much.

The champagne glass designs was pleasing to the eye but as with most pretty things, they aren’t always practical. We had to do some banging and teh tarik action to dislodge the strawberry from the middle of the glass.

It was a dressy but mellow night of fun and good banter. Different from the partying I'm used to but enjoyable all the same.

Bright Sunshiny Morning

What a gorgeous morning! The downpour last night washed the skies, transformed the city skyline to a string of colourful and twinkly fairy lights to reveal a beautiful today. And not just a typical Malaysian bright, sunny, hot and humid morning either. Today was like a morning in an English countryside. Where the sunshine lights up the world around you. Where the sunrays envelops u in its warm embrace. Makes you want to walk out into a meadow, lie down on the grass, face the blue skies and bask in the sun’s rays. The lighting is sharper thus changing the surroundings and creating a cheerful mood. (No I’m on anything. It really is an amazing day). To everyone, here’s wishing u an absolutely beautiful morning which continues to a wonderful weekend.

Casino Royale vs Happy Feet

Watched the midnight movie (midnight movie being 0045 at Cineleisure so had to struggle to keep motivations up to watch it) of Casino Royale on Fri w/ Nic. Had lotsa action but didn't follow the usual Bond formula. Not enough cool gadgets. Daniel Craig wasn't suave enough and despite having a great upper body, there wasn't much to look at chest down. And my main gripe, there was too much love and not enough sex. Apparently this Bond movie is to show how Bond got to be the way he is, due to his heart being broken. But that didn't come across either. But overall, it was a fun to watch movie.

And yesterday, went to watch Happy Feet w/ Michelle, Sin Cyn n Pete. That was very entertaining, cute, heart warming, happy and sing a long kinda show. Brought Popo and Nithi Jr and they were dancing along to the music.

Heard on radio on the way to work today that Happy Feet overtook Casino Royale as they opened on the same week. Hahaha!

Adult Playground

Yesterday, I went rock climbing. This time I managed to scale a higher wall and actually followed the colours. Did a wall with 5b grading. One of the easiest but it was after all my second time. Was huffing and puffing and my shoulders and arms really aches right now.

Figured why I still go to Camp 5 despite me not liking climbing that much nor wanting to pursue it seriously nor as a leisurely pastime. It’s cos of the environment of the place! It’s like an adults play ground. There are multi coloured stones on the very high walls with hanging ropes. There’s a huge mattress about 1 feet thick round the small climbing boulders. So I climbed a bit but the bit I enjoyed most was climbing the small boulders and jumping down onto the mattresses from about 8 feet up. And tumbling and jumping and doing flips.

Next time I go, I wont bother with the rental of the harness since all I need are the shoes to climb and jump about in.

After dinner, we all headed home. Went into the lift and saw an interesting ambient advertising from Hotlink for the Friends Unlimited campaign. Altho I understand the msg and think it’s a creative idea, being in a lift 'alone' with about 20 'ppl' staring at you is actually quite scary!

I got off at the next floor and walked used the stairwell instead.

Jaded with clubbing

Noticed that I've not been clubbing as much anymore. My Wed Mambo, Thurs Ghetto, Fri AHR, Sat Velvet routine has been dropped completely.

Been to quite a few other parties too. More recently
- the Smirnoff Black Casino Royale party @ Cynna last week
- the Jaeger la Coultre dinner & Carcosa on Thurs

Was nice to meet new ppl and do the network thing but it wasn't outright fun. Maybe its just me. I'm all clubbed out.

It's Friday. No clubbing plans but going to watch Casino Royale at midnight. Some sponsored thing.

Tomorrow is Baby Boy's b'day at Bubbles. New club. Not been there. But its got the same name as me!

Things to do in Langkawi besides getting pissed

Langkawi is a duty free island but there's loads to do so being high 24 hours a day isn't completely necessary.

Other activities include:

Befriending the local cow.

Went to see this lil fellow everyday that i was on this island. Not that i know a lot about cows but he looks like he's in his mid teens, in cow years, however thats calculated.

Riding the new cable car and walking on the suspension bridge.

Playing hopscotch in crocs.

Show your love.

Have an Ayurvedic massage.

And lastly, having a nice cold beer in a beach cafe.....

.... before clambering out onto the sand for some time in the sun. With Popo the Penguin of course. Contrary to popular belief, penguins do enjoy the sun and the sand.

Popo the Penguin Does Langkawi

Over the weekend, i brought my penguin, Popo (well he's not actually mine and i have joint custody of him but thats a different story), on holiday to Langkawi.

First, let me establish how small Popo is.

It's important to wear your seat belt for safety.



Now everyone can fly, including penguins.


Azmi, our car rental guy, tells me that 'penguin' is 'pingu' in Malay.


Popo befriends Shane, the Bon Ton dog.

Popo wanted to go for a swim while i was drinking mojitos with Wijay and catching up on the latest Langkawi gossip.


Nithi gives the best Ayurvedic massages. Nithi likes Popo.


Jeffrey owns the Sun chain of bars/ clubs / restaurants / resorts on the island. He likes Popo too. Says that Wijay is jealous of Popo.

Finally Wijay is high enough to take a pic of Popo and i with a smile.


What we call 'nasi lemak 50sen' now costs RM1 in KL. But we don't call it 'RM1 nasi lemak', do we? But u can find 20sen nasi lemak in Langkawi. And Popo is hardly bigger. Hey! This means that Popo is bite sized.


We go island hopping and Popo goes for a swim. He's good in back stroke. He can also dive and wake board. Videos of that later.

Now Popo is 706 metres above sea level!


Popo goes home with a friend, Nithi Junior. Thanks Nithi Senior for the big pingu! Bet Wijay will be shaking his head if he reads this. Popo and Nithi Junior will be pooling together to buy you a ticket to watch Happy Feet. They're asking when u wanna go?!
