It’s 4 months till the wedding which is a fair amount of time to do all I need to do. But what I forgot was that the pre wedding photography is in 1 month! I may have the dresses but I don’t have the matching shoes! So Sin Cyn, Michelle Who Stays on the Seashore and I had lunch in 1U then went to Vincci, Nose, Colleen, Aldo and Nine West. After all the walking and trying dozens of pair, I finally bought 2 pairs from Nine West. One to match my bridal gown and one to match my fairy dress.

While walking to the car park, we saw that Lewre was on sale too! I went in and saw this exquisite pair of silvery white strappy heels with diamantes. It was RM199 with 10% off.

I wanted to try it but we were late. So I’ll go back another day. Shell was asking why I need another pair of white wedding shoes when I already have one pair which I just bought a few moments ago. So I gave her this analogy.

The 2 pairs of shoes that I bought at Nine West were really nice. They were pretty and I like them. I know I can depend on them. They’re like a husband. You love him and you know he will be there for you and you feel comfortable with him.

But the other shoe is like a torrid affair. He doesn’t cover up very much, he’s probably gonna hurt you he looks great and utterly sexy and makes you go ggggggrrrr!

If it makes sense to you, you probably love shoes too. If you don’t get it, it’s okay. It’s not something that’s hard to understand.

It’s in like the movie PS I Love You. After Hillary Swank made up with Gerard Butler after a fight where she threw her shoes at him, she suddenly stopped and said “Stop. I got to pick up my shoes. They may think I don’t love them anymore”.

I totally understand where she’s coming from.

Bad Day Despite Good Hair Day & New Shoes

I woke up to a good hair day. And you know how good hair days make you feel on top of the world and nothing can weight you down. Nothing at all!

That is until I got to work. Work these days has been a major downer for not only me but so many of my other colleagues too. It’s just become tiresome, bothersome and loathsome. It’s harder to wake up in the morning. And when I do wake on time, I rather stay in to do household chores. I watered the plants and washed the toilets this morning. That’s now bad it is.

And when we get to work, we’re just waiting for lunch time. And when we’re back from lunch, we’re just waiting to go home. The fun and the joy is non existent. And we don’t know what happened.

To make ourselves feel better, Sin Cyn and I went shoe shopping. And how can a good hair day AND new pretty shoes equal a bad day no matter what? That’s a double dose of happiness! I bought a pair of ballet pumps with diamante skull on it. I shall wear that to the client’s place when I feel particularly hostile towards them.

I also bought a happy purple one with gold link chains. Don’t think I had a purple pair before.

We were pretty happy in Nose (yeah I went back there despite their bad quality and bad service but they have really nice designs even tho they fall apart soon enough) trying on more than a dozen pairs. When bought the shoes and came back to the office and all that negatively in the hit hit is right in the face.

I don’t understand. How can the combination of a good hair day and new shoes not help elevate our mood. Guess things in the office really have reached an all time low.

Starbuck seems like more and more of a good idea now.

Still on the Topic of Shoes

Barbie Doll Lola bought a book titled ‘Shoe Addicts Anonymous’ at the MPH book sale today! I’m really not the only one who’s this passionate about shoes. Japanese Pornstar April tells me that I’m more obvious about it whereas everyone else are still ‘in the closet’.

Well, Sin Cyn and I are still dreaming about a walk in shoe closet. I wonder how long and what it’ll take for us to achieve this.

MPH Sale, Bruce Lee & Shoes

The MPH sale is on!

There’s a 10% discount store wide for non-members. Members get 15% off. There’s also a Members’ Corner where selected titles are going from 30% - 40% discount. And for only 3 days (I think it’s today, tomorrow and Friday), MPH members get a further 5% discount on top of whatever discounts which they get based on the books they choose.

Sin Cyn and I were at the MPH at 1U at lunch today and we bought books. But of course … it’s hard to walk into a book shop and not walk out with any books. In my case, it was 3 books. I bought these:

- The Dragon and The Tiger

- Bruce Lee Fighting Spirit

- A Passion for Shoes

The first 2 is because I LOVE Bruce Lee! He’s really The Man. And I maintain that his death is a conspiracy. Maybe I can pick up some Jeet Kun Do tips and carry on his tradition. I love Bruce Lee! So intense. So powerful. So stylish. So full of character. So deep. Okay I’m swooning.

The other thing that makes me swoon are shoes, as it is with half of the earth’s population who don’t live in the outback. Before stepping into MPH, Sin Cyn and I were at Nine West because they too were having a sale. 50% off 30 different styles of shoes, out of which I liked about 8 of them. But anyway Sin Cyn and I made a pact. We’re not allowed to buy any more shoes till April 2008! So we stuck to the pact!

I guess buying a book about shoes is some sort of consolation. It’s a nice book though! It’s small and has gorgeous shoes in it and it explains why women go mad about shoes and why women need that many pairs. It’s a great way to justify to ourselves. Even though we know they are true, we sometimes need someone else to remind us. This is a great book for girls to buy for their boyfriends and husbands in an attempt to make them understand women’s relationship with shoes.

Books and shoes. I don’t really shop but shopping for these 2 items do make me loose track of time.

It’s not too bad ….. at I don’t have a weakness for jewelery!

Nose - Really Bad Quality Shoes

After the crazy shoe shopping yesterday which made me so happy and excited, of course I wanted to wear at least one pair of them to work today!

I did and when I got to work, my shoes were making clackity sounds. Well, one side of it anyway. I look off the shoe, inspected the heel and as suspected, the little black rubbery bit at the bottom of the heel came off. This is one of the most common problems with shoes.

I know that Vincci and Nose shoes are the buy-and-throw-away type of shoes but it should last for at least more than one day! Slutty Cheryl and I were just saying that the quality of Nose shoes are slightly better than the quality of Vincci shoes!

I called them up to complain. They merely said that I can bring the shoe back and they won’t replace it but will send it to their workshop instead and it will take 2 weeks to repair! It’s a RM55 pair of shoes. Is it really worth the hassle of going to 1U, finding parking, dropping it off then taking the effort to go there again to pick it up?

I’m disappointed in Nose. Even if their shoes are not that durable, they should not break at the first wear. And even if they do, they should replace the shoe and not inconvenience the customer.

Nose. Another brand I’m not happy with.

Crazy Shoe Shopping - Slutty Cheryl's Fault

It happened again and this time it’s Slutty Cheryl’s fault!

The Beer Team girls went for lunch at 1U today to buy the Guinness and Tiger CNY packing which we designed. Because we had such a quick lunch, we decided to walk around a while before going to Giant to buy the packaging. Slutty Cheryl said she needed to go to Nose to look for a shoe so we all tagged along. And while we were waiting, we tried on a few pairs which turned to a dozen pairs. Out of which Cheryl bought 1, Sin Cyn bought 2 and I bought 3! And it’s all Slutty Cheryl’s fault!

It’s not too bad a I guess since the last time I bought shoes was in Singapore during Christmas.

And before that was at the Wondermomo sale.

So we brought our beer and shoes back to the office.

And laid the shoes out all prettily and people came to try and guess which shoe belonged to whom!

And everyone wanted to try the pretty shoes.

Michelle Who Stays On The Sea Shore trying to balance on one of Sin Cyn’s peep toe dark green high heel shoes.

And Slutty Cheryl doing her thing in her bright green high heel shoes.

Shoes. It’s such an obsession. We still blame you Slutty Cheryl. Now our ang pau money is all gone!

But lovely green shoes by the way!

What To Do When There's Not Much Alcohol At A Wedding?

Congratulations May Leen! She was the planner in Saatchi but has quit to get married and move to London with her new hubby. Isn’t that such a dream come true for some?

The wedding was held in Renaissance Hotel and there were 60 over tables.

A few people on the Saatchi tables didn’t show so we had a lot of food. Unfortunately both Salt Boy and Paul were not themselves and didn’t eat for 3 people per person as per what is the norm.

There was also no alcohol except for wine. So when we can’t get high at a wedding and do silly things, we had to make our own entertainment. Here are examples on how.

But non-alcoholic silliness isn’t as fun so Paul and I went to meet Fruitcake & Ed at this happening new club called Pulse at the New Millennium Hotel (formerly known as Regent Hotel). There was a live band which was excellent playing R&B music. The crowd was expat and slightly older. And since I’m not ‘slightly older’, I can appreciate places where there are no teeny boppers or college kids. Unfortunately I was wearing my killer-fabulous-looking-but-killer painful 5 inch heels so I couldn’t dance as much as I would have liked except the times when I kicked it off and didn’t care anymore.

The place is happening! And it has class too. I know this because the elevator only goes to one floor.

It was good hanging out with my partner in crime again. Fruitcake, I miss u!

Christmas 2007 in Singapore

Happy New Year!

So it’s 2008 and so much has happened in the past few weeks. So many parties and traveling and before you know it, it’s the New Year!

Paul and I spent a week in Singapore celebrating Christmas. Since we are both very familiar with the island, all we did was shop (the Boxing Day sale is irresistible even to non shoppers) and meet up with friends there.

About shopping – I bought 5 pairs of shoes.

Yes I know my shoe obsession is getting out of hand especially since the pretty ones are usually too painful to be worn for long periods of time which means in the end, they don’t end up being worn much. But they are way to pretty not to be bought. I justify the purchase by wearing them for at least 6 hours every 6 months.

Also bought some dresses, pants, tops and accessories from AX, FCUK, Esprit, Gap and other small non branded shops. I almost bought a Prada bag which wasn’t on sale but is still much cheaper than in Malaysia. I didn’t bother to go into LV because as usual, there was a queue going into the store.

I can see why Singaporeans are such shopaholics. Firstly, there’s not much else to do. And secondly, things are so cheap, including branded stuff. If I was earning in S$, prices will be dollar to dollar and I’d be able to afford to go shopping every weekend too.

But other then shopping, it was great to meet up with friends.

And when you’ve shopped and finished drinking with friends, there are 2 things which can be done in Singapore but not in KL and that’s midnight shopping!

As we were drinking in Holland V and there was a 24 hour Cold Storage in the area, it’s often we do a spot of drunken shopping which is totally hilarious.

We did that one night when Paul’s cousin suggested an even better way to entertain ourselves when drunk – to go shopping in the 24 hour Mustafa Centre! So we hopped into a cab at midnight and arrived at this amazing building selling everything. Imagine Poh Kong, Watch Shoppe, Tesco, Ace Hardware, World Traveler, Jusco and World of Sports under one roof.

That’s 6 floors of Nike watches, Casio watches, Omega watches, Victorinox Swiss Army Knives, Samsonite luggage bags, dried popodoms, Maggi instant noodles, scissors, Indo mie instant noodles, gold chains (I’m talking 2 whole floors of total bling), frozen turkey, chopped chicken, baby powder, bottles of honey, basket balls, Nike running shoes, non-branded white school shoes, balloons, masquerade masks, super glue, bicycles, industrial sized rice cookers, dice, Winnie–the-Pooh toys, toilet bowls ……

It’s possible that the only thing they don’t sell at Mustafa Centre are cars, tanks and jet planes.

Needless to say it was a thoroughly entertaining experience enhanced with a little bit of alcohol going to the head which makes a pile of Nike shoes in the middle of the aisle excruciatingly funny.

I’m certainly going back there the next time I’m out drinking in Singapore.

We’re scheduling the next trip there in July 2008 to coincide with the Great Singapore Sale. After all, drinking and shopping are the only things to do in Singapore!

The Sassari

The quality of Crocs since they moved their production to China is very disheartening. Sure, quality of products drops when they’re manufactured in China. But the drop of quality is so significant (with the price remaining the same) that I feel so cheated. I’m paying for sub-standard products now. The first batch of Crocs molded to your feet so that when you slip into them, you almost go ‘ahhhhh’ in contentment due to the hold and support. It just cradles your feet.

Now, u slip it in and while it’s still soft, there are gaps which should not be there and it even squeaks more.

I’m a big fan of Crocs and own one Beach and 2 Mary Janes. These are my official work shoes as they are for many of my colleagues due to the amount of running we have to do sometimes within the office and out. I’ve also wanted the Sassari for the longest time. It’s their first attempt at introducing heels into their line of casual footwear. Good looking heels are never comfortable but Crocs may just have broken the unwritten fashion rule. The stores have one side of the Sassari displayed for the past 4 months at least and it’s still not hit our shores yet. Thanks to Lola who bought me a pair while in Singapore for work, I now have my 4th pair - A pink and white Sassari.

I’m also eying the Capri. But now I’m thinking twice.

Maybe I should just forget about Crocs and remember to wear the other 50 pairs of shoes I own.
